Ben Trigsted accomplished something no other LHS golfer did this season — he made it to the state tournament in Coeur d’Alene.
May 15-16 the Idaho state golf tournament took place at the Teton Lake Golf Course in Rexburg, where Trigsted represented Lewiston High School. The tournament took two days in which Trigsted shot a score of 162 combined, placing 20th.
“State was at a tough course and I didn’t perform to my highest potential, but big tournaments are always a great experience,” Trigsted said.
This season was Trigsted’s last with the boys golf team at LHS.
“This year was really fun. We had three returning guys and two guys who were on varsity for the first time. We also had a really strong JV team,” Trigsted said.
Golf is a very intricate sport that takes a tremendous amount of skill and concentration, both qualities that Trigsted proved to contain.
“He is really good at the game, he can concentrate on the game even when going through stressful situations,” said Kinley Pederson, junior. “There’s no doubt in my mind that that is what helped get him to state.”
After seeing the season end, Pederson felt very proud of Trigsted. And the popular belief of every man for himself proved to be false in the golf season for Trigsted.
“All in all, I had a great year, I had a blast with all of the guys. They all brought a little something to the table,” Trigsted said, recapping his year.
Both JV and varsity teams made it to districts this spring, but a majority of the players’ seasons ended there. Trigsted, through hard work and determination, traveled to state, played his heart out. In the end he came out victorious, maybe not materially, but in the fact that he was the only LHS golfer to make it to state.
