Wright, Schmidt, Lawrence win annual ESP awards

Dee Wright, left, was recipient of the Overall Award for the ESP of the Year Award program.

Kathleen Vellegas announced the recipients of the eighth annual Educational Support Personnel of the Year Awards Friday, April 27, for Lewiston Independent School District No. 1.

Dee Wright won for the Overall ESP Award. A speech aide at Whitman Elementary, “Dee is always willing to work with staff and students to solve a problem,” according to her nomination. She was nominated for her integral part at the school with aiding in its functions and for being a dedicated worker.

Donna Schmidt won the Non-Direct ESP Award, and she is a lead cook at McGhee Elementary. The selection committee chose Schmidt for her effective and efficient work at McGhee, noting that “She greets students and staff daily with a smile on her face.”

Becky Lawrence, a Library-Media Tech also at McGhee won the Direct ESP Award. Lawrence was chosen for her commitment to students. “She is about the kids,” Vellegas said in an email. “She will help provide for the student, whether it [be] food or clothes.”
