Music groups kicks off year with a bang
The LHS bands and choirs all gave their first formal performances of the school year at their concert Oct. 25. The concert consisted of jazz, pop songs, and even some Star Wars theme music added by the marching band.
This year is the first year that LHS has a second jazz band, according to Brendan Burns. The concert was Jazz II’s first concert. For the Oct. 25 show both jazz bands arranged one of their very own songs and performed them for the concert.
Brendan Burns plans to take the bands to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival this winter in Moscow, Idaho, and to rank higher than other high schools.
In November, 13 singers will also compete at All-State in Nampa, Idaho.
“We have not done this since 2010,” said Julie Burke, choir director.
Burke also hopes to keep things fresh this year by adding new songs to the choirs’ repertoire.
