Patrick Schmidt shares retirement plans
Patrick Schmidt, the Precision Machining and CTE Trades teacher at Lewiston High School, will retire at the end of the 2022 – 2023 school year.
He says he wanted to become a teacher while working in the industry. He found training other machinists rewarding, which eventually led to him pursuing a teaching degree that would allow him to teach machine shop. When he realized that a job opened up at LHS, he applied and began teaching in the 1995 – 1996 school year. Schmidt shares his favorite experience at LHS.
“My favorite thing would probably be the fact that I got to teach machining in the best machine shop program and school in the state,” Schmidt said.
He says he finds it rewarding to see students he taught using their skills from his classes when they graduate. After retiring, Schmidt plans to go fishing, camping, traveling and motorcycling. He says he will miss the students and staff at LHS.
“It’s a great school. Great students and good staff, but I’m looking forward to what’s coming up next,” Schmidt said.
