Seniors Carter Steinwand and Xander Van Tine are two players who showed true leadership skills on the CHS men’s varsity basketball team. Both love the competition of sports, along with the fun side of basketball.
Basketball has taught Steinwand essential life lessons such as “how to work hard, be disciplined, handle adversity and have humility,” he said.
On the other hand, it has taught Van Tine how to keep his composure in challenging situations.
“My job as a leader is to keep everyone’s heads up and make sure my teammates are in the right place to make plays happen,” Van Tine said.
The Bantam men have prepared for Golden Throne by working to become better as a team, not individually. Becoming confident in each other has become their main priority.
Steinwand brings a calming presence to the court because of his experience. This helps the other players keep their cool, and encourages them to play the best they can with a clear mind.
The support of school spirit goes a long way for these captains. CHS supports its basketball team, win or lose, they said. The team´s ability to work toward a common goal is essential.
Both Steinwand and Van Tine said their team is a brotherhood; they always have each other’s backs on and off the court.
“This team has a special bond like no other team that I have ever played on,” said Steinwand.
“We work hard for each other no matter what, which makes us a strong unit,” Van Tine mentioned.
