The Key Club traveled March 9 to Portland, Oregon, to meet people from different Key Clubs all around the Pacific Northwest and a part of Canada. They also participated in workshops and attended the Governor’s Ball.
The Key Club is the student organization at Lewiston High School that involves volunteering around the community and fundraising for the Lewiston School District. It is a civil service, volunteering and leadership club.
This is the Lewiston Key Club’s second year going to the convention, with have about 10 people going.
Before the trip, Gabby Wormell, secretary of the LHS club, shared her enthusiasm.
“I’m excited to ride down there because I love car rides. Also, we are going shopping and meeting new people from different Key Clubs around the district,” Wormell said.
The group has held several fundraisers off campus to save up for this trip, including selling Krispy Kreme donuts, bake sales, and sales of World’s Finest Chocolate bars. The group assisted at Washington State University in Pullman, where they directed parking for basketball games.
For volunteer efforts, Lewiston Key Club members have helped at the local food bank and animal shelters.
“I like how everyone is close with each other and they have good bonds and relationships,” said Ella Bruck, president of the Lewiston Key Club. “I think all clubs should have this.”
