Gwen Koreltz is a dedicated volunteer at the Lewiston City Library and recently celebrated her fifth anniversary with the library.
A Lifelong Passion for Libraries:
Koreltz’s love for libraries is not a recent development. She has been volunteering in libraries for as long as she can remember. Her passion for libraries was so strong that she considered it as a potential career path.
Memorable Experiences and Personal Impact:
One of the most memorable experiences for Koreltz was her involvement in the summer reading program kickoff party. The excitement of the children and their parents left a lasting impression on her.
The Indirect but Crucial Role of Volunteers:
The role of volunteers in the library is often indirect but crucial. They support the library staff, making their jobs more efficient and easier. This, in turn, allows the staff to better serve the community. Koreltz believes that the volunteers’ efforts have made a significant difference in supporting the community.
Overcoming Challenges:
However, the journey has not been without challenges. The biggest setback was the pandemic, which halted the volunteers’ activities. Despite this, Koreltz and her fellow volunteers have managed to adapt and continue serving the community.
