For the Lewiston bowling team, this season’s last competition was the Individual High School State Bowling Tournament on Feb. 21 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Out of 49 boys and 30 girls participating, Lewiston freshman, Aubry Lawrence, and Lewiston senior Joey Louis, each placed 11th in their division.
Before that, Lewiston bowlers competed at the Team High School State Bowling Tournament Feb. 20 in Burly, Idaho, where the girls team placed 4th.
The Lewiston bowling team was started in 2007 by Mike Ralston. Now coaching the team are Randy Buttenhoff, the head coach; Brian Knieriem, assistant coach; and Dan Lovejoy, the girls coach.
The team started practicing for this season in mid-November, with tournaments beginning in December, and their last practice was on Feb. 25 at Orchard´s Lanes. The team has 20 members: three from Scajawea Middle School, one from Jenifer Middle School, one from Lapwai, and the rest from LHS.
Even though the team is very young right now, with many players still in middle school or first-year high school students, coach Buttenhoff expects they will continue to improve with time.
