Ella Bruck Managing Editor
Story text- Following the retirement of LeAnn Nilsson, a new librarian, Shayla Ryan, took her place in December. Strictly speaking, Ryan’s job title is not a librarian, but a cataloger, meaning she is in charge of the library’s data management.
“Librarians have either a special endorsement on their teaching certificate or a master’s degree, so I am technically a cataloguer,” she said. “I had worked for the city library for five years on and off before I came here. So those are my primary qualifications.”
Working in a school has been a change for Ryan.
“This will be my first year as an adult with a summer vacation and I am really excited about that. I miss summer break from school,” she explained.
Additionally, according to Ryan, she reads an average of about 200 books each year, and with her new position, she will be able to continue this habit.
