Sometimes, it feels like summer in Lewiston can be extremely boring. With scorching temperatures that make it intolerable to go outside and the minimal amount of events being held, it’s tempting to just stay home and scroll through TikTok all day long.
However, the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley has a plethora of things to do. With the resolution of the tragedy known as school, summer is the perfect time to sit back and relax near the water, adventure out into the wilderness, acquire new hobbies and so much more!
Starting off strong, there is the Orchards Pool, located at 1301 Airway Ave., in Lewiston, or the Asotin County Family Aquatic Center, located at 1603 Dustan Loop in Clarkston. These are the perfect places to go and take a refreshing swim.
Alternatively, the Snake River makes for an amazing place to visit whether it be boating, fishing or taking a trip to the beach. Some fantastic beaches to visit include Hells Gate National Park and those located upriver near Asotin. Taking a day trip to the beach is a fantastic way to spend the summer, and even get an authentic tan. No matter what, there are a variety of water options to choose from.
Furthermore, there is an assortment of non-aquatic activities available in or around Lewiston, such as berry picking. Spalding National Park has a fantastic selection of berries suitable for making pies and jams. And this segues into another activity: exploring a new hobby. Hobbies can range from less active activities such as knitting, sewing or baking, or more active activities such as learning a sport or gardening.
Some activities are more fun with a friend or a group of friends, and luckily, summer in the L-C Valley provides a large amount of them. A few options include going for a hike or going camping for a weekend. Living in a more mountainous state provides numerous places to visit with beautiful scenery and wildlife. Visiting the Idaho North Fork, Elk River or Ponderosa State Park are all places that one can choose to explore.
Other group activities might include bike riding or walking dogs on the walking trail at Lewiston Community Park located behind the new Lewiston High School campus, or the Lewiston Levee Parkway, located along the Snake River.
Lastly, gathering some silverware, a blanket, some PB&Js and going to a park for a picnic is a simple, yet effective way to add a little light to your summer break.
While Lewiston may not be the most exciting city in the world, it still contains a large amount of unique and interesting things to do. It’s important to make the most of it.
