Lewiston High School’s (LHS) swim team held its only home meet at Asotin County Family Aquatic Center on Sept. 21st at 11 am. This meet was also a tribute to the seniors on the team who have dedicated their time and energy to LHS athletics for the past four years.
Jayla Ackerland, Deegan Everett and Corinne Sawyer are the seniors on LHS swim this year.
When asked about the season so far, Ackerland had to say, “It’s been really good! I really enjoy swimming.”
Ackerland is a freestyle and breaststroke swimmer. She is reaching for a :25 for her 50 freestyle and 1:25 for her 100 breaststroke.
“Out of all the sports I’ve ever watched, swim is the most supportive. Nobody judges you. I’ve always felt so welcome.” Ackerland said.
Deegan Everett is another senior on swim. He is a butterfly and freestyle swimmer, hoping to go to state for his 100 butterfly. “It (swim) starts out tough, but you just gotta stick with it because you 100% will improve,” Everett explained.
Finally, Corrine Sawyer has been swimming for five years. She does club and high school swim. She hopes to make it to the state competition this year. “I’m ready to have a social life again, swimming takes up a lot of time,” Sawyer said.
When prompted for advice for anyone wanting to try swim Sawyer stated, “Just try it (swim) because you never know what you’re going to enjoy. You never know what you’re good at until you try it.”
The LHS swim team is a fun, supportive environment for anyone wanting to try it! The seniors have worked very hard in their last season to make it their best yet!
Way to go LHS swim!
