The Baking Barn, a local Lewiston business, was established by LHS students, Addison and Aubrey Weeks, in August of 2024. The two discovered their love of baking and experimenting with foods at an early age, starting primarily with cookies and muffins. Addison said that turning her passion into a business was always an intriguing idea she planned to someday pursue. However Aubrey, the younger of the two, claimed she wasn’t always interested in baking.
In an interview with The Bengal’s Purr, the sisters repeatedly credited their mom for helping them along the way and giving them the biggest push of encouragement. “She told me I could do it, so I did,” Aubrey said.
The Weeks sisters decided to start with Rice Krispies Treats because they’re easy, quick and cost efficient. They plan to add Muddy Buddies, brownies, and various cookies onto their menu in the next couple months.
Their services include personal customization of orders such as sprinkles and choices of wrap or ribbons for sports competitions and events such as birthdays.
Dedicating around 5 hours every week to their business, Aubrey and Addison work together to keep up their Instagram and bake a batch every other night. They also package and deliver their orders. They currently sell about 5 batches per week to individual customers. Erb’s Ace Hardware in the Lewiston Orchards also sells their Rice Krispies Treats for $3 apiece.
“In the future I hope to actually own a bigger business, whether that be the Baking Barn or not. I hope that it can get me to that place,” Addison mentioned. Meanwhile, Aubrey had a simpler perspective, saying “I hope it just makes me money,” with a smile.
They offered a bit of advice for other high-schoolers who are interested in starting a business. “If you first don’t succeed, try again,” Addison stated. Aubrey advised, “Do it. Just do it. Nike,” adding, “Anybody can do something as long as they try; third time’s the charm.”
Overall, both of the Weeks sisters agreed that if a person starts a business, it should be something they enjoy. They said they would encourage those around them to put in the effort with a business and make their goals reality.
