The Outdoor Recreation P.E. class had the opportunity to travel to Snowhaven in Grangeville on Jan 27.
The class left at 8 am and returned around 2:30 pm. The students in the class could bring personal ski gear or rent gear from Snowhaven.
The students were able to learn ski and snowboarding skills on the T-bar as well as spend the day on the tubing hill. Beginners could spend their time on the tow rope, which took them up a quarter of the mountain, and allowed them to practice balance and stop in a safe spot.
“I’m glad that I can do things in this class that I normally wouldn’t have tried,” said Savannah Swallow, who is taking the class for the second time this year.
The T-bar was a good spot for the more experienced skiers who wanted to ride the whole mountain. Main Street had a series of tabletop jumps that students were able to hit. The majority of students agreed that the jumps were their favorite feature of the mountain.
Jayden Whittman was one of the students who enjoyed the jumps.
“It was totally worth the drive up there, the jumps made it way more fun!” Whittman said.
Some students, like Patrick Brewer, improved throughout the day and claimed to have found a new hobby.
“It’s really peaceful out here [Snowhaven] and I like how the snow sounds when you go over it. It’s crunchy,” Brewer said.
