LHS graduate makes appearance on "Jeopardy!"

When Lewiston High School graduate Mike Dawson, an LHS class of 2000 graduate, competed on Jeopardy! this month, many Lewiston residents recognized him as a former classmate and even as a current friend.

Getting on the trivia show is harder than people might expect. Dawson reported that it is a very lengthy process. Contestants have to complete a 50-question test, and then are put into a pool of people that is randomly selected.

The chances of getting onto the show are slim to none.

Overall, it took Dawson 18 years to make it onto the show. During that time, he also graduated from the University of Idaho in 2005 and from Georgetown University in 2013.

“I didn’t think I would win even one game, let alone three!” Dawson said.

Dawson noted that developing good study habits at LHS  was extremely important.  It helps guide students in the right direction for studying, he said, and those skills will carry on throughout college, a future job, and even making it onto a game show.

Not only did Dawson make a lot of friends on the show, but he also highlighted how easy it was to talk to Ken Jennings, the host of Jeopardy!

“As a lifelong trivia nerd, it was a dream come true to be on that stage and get to compete,” Dawson said.
