LHS junior Ozeran victorious at 2018 DYW competition

Alex Ozeran turned out victorious at the 2018 Distinguished Young Women Event at Lewiston High School April 29.
   Ten contestants showed off their prestige through four categories of competition which included body tone, talent scholastics and self expression.
  With each category came a $300 scholarship. The winners for these scholarships were Ozeran for self expression and Talent, Mary Ingram for fitness scholarship,  and RaeAnn Kirk for the Scholastics and Spirit of DYW scholarships.
  During these events the young women were tested on what they could physically do, what talent they possess, and how they could answer a question on the spot.
  The beginning of the contest started with the contestants running out in a synchronized dance to show off. Then the show went right into the physical round.
  The physical test kicked off with a group exercise which included dance. From there it then moved into individual tests among each of the contestants. The test included push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, jump rope, and then at the end of the test a personal touch that each contestant had a chance to add.  
  After the physical test came the talent round. Each contestant had a unique talent, which included Elizabeth Sabo with ballet, Kirk in a jazz dance, Victoria Sabo on piano, Sarah Lake with a hip-hop routine, Shaylee Bachman with a lyrical dance, Madison Bricker with the flugel horn, Jessica Earle with a lyrical dance, Ingram with the balance beam, Aubrie Hunt with singing, and Ozeran who played piano and sang.
  The final round of judging consisted of a questions picked at random and presented to the contestants. The judges looked at the fluency and quality of the answer. After this a waiting time for the judges to make a decision was put into play.
  After about 15 minutes of consideration, the judges returned to the LHS auditorium to announce the winners. of the 2nd alternate, 1st alternate, and then the Distinguished Young Woman of 2018. The winners were as follows; 2nd Alternate with an $1100 scholarship, Madison Bricker, 1st Alternate with a $1300 scholarship, Mary Ingram, and the 2018 Distinguished Young Woman with a $1500 scholarship was Ozeran.
