Community members who shop at Bloomer’s inside Rosauer’s in Lewiston can support the LHS football players and golfers by purchasing $10 Bloomers gift certificates this month. The fundraiser helps send the athletes to camps and pay for equipment associated with their sports. Athletes are selling the certificates in the LHS library, open 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, or through librarian Mary Ann Funk at 208-748-3130. Bengal Follies started May 3 and continues at 7 p.m. May 4 in the LHS auditorium. The show stars students expressing many talents of their choice. Talents vary from singing to playing a musical instrument, dancing and even acting. The cost to enter is $1 with an LHS activity card. Other prices are listed at the door. — Leah Schmidt, reporter

The LHS drama department presents an Evening of One Acts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, and Wednesday, April 27 in the LHS auditorium. Thirty-five students will perform 10 student-written and directed one-acts, lasting two hours with a 10-minute intermission. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students seventh grade through college, and $1 for children and LHS students with activity cards. Student playwrights and directors include: Emily Blair, Emily Browne, Jada Cortese, Abby Coy, Alex Dietz, Marshall Fisher, Jessica Leckie, Austin Rose, Hannah Seale and Aidan Walsh. — Moira Skinner, reporter

The LHS Jazz Band and University of Idaho Retro Swing Band will host Swing into Spring XXIII, 7-11 p.m., Friday, April 29, at the Elks Lodge in Lewiston. Tickets are $15, and are for sale at the LHS band room or at the door. All ticket sales go directly to the LHS music department. The dance floor will be open, so in the words of LHS band director Brendan Burns, “Come swing dance the night away.” — Emilyn Sheppard, reporter

Tuesday, April 19, LHS senior students have senior project presentations while sophomore and junior students have a half day of school.
April 19 is also a B day with early release; here is how the schedule will look:
1st Block: 7:55-8:52 a.m.
2nd Block: 8:57-9:55 a.m.
3rd Block: 10:00- 10:57 a.m.
4th Block: 11:02 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The school will not provide lunches for sophomores and juniors, and buses will run at 12 p.m. for underclassmen.
Lunches will be provided, if wanted, for seniors from 12:10-1 p.m. Senior presentations run from 1-3:30 p.m. Buses for seniors will run to the Orchards/Waha areas and downtown at 2:25 p.m. — Carmen Neiman, reporter

Current underclassmen voted for next year’s LHS senior and junior class officers Wednesday, March 30.
All of the senior class candidates went uncontested. Ty Austin won president, Emily Hunter won vice president, Dani Wren won secretary and Jordan Dickenson won treasurer.
The outcomes of the junior class elections were: Mason Bartholmei, president, uncontested; Cutler Lang, vice president, contested by Brooke Chase and Kami Sledge; RaeAnn Kirk, treasurer, uncontested; and Eden Gibbs, secretary, uncontested. — Amanda Egland, news assistant

The LCSC Center for Arts & History began its 2016 LCSC Regional Jr./Sr. High and LCSC Student Art Exhibit March 25 at 415 Main Street in Lewiston.
The exhibit runs from Friday, March 25, until Saturday, April 30, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit includes work by LHS artists in mediums such as paint, sculpture, photography, poetry, woodworking and film production.
For all participating student artists, pick-up will be Monday, May 2, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. — Autumn Symonds, reporter

UPDATE: The Distinguished Young Women competition will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26, in the Lewiston High School auditorium. Seventeen junior girls will be participating from LHS, and will compete for scholarships by displaying their leadership and academic skills. Tonight in the Lewiston High School auditorium the LHS Gold Voices and Grace Notes choirs, along with the jazz band, will perform in a concert at 7 p.m. Tomorrow the LHS concert choir and concert band will also have a performance at 7 p.m. Admission is free for all concerts. — Carl Snyder, entertainment assistant

The LHS Auto Club is currently offering oil changes. The club charges the cost of the oil plus tax and the cost of the filter. Students or community members who want this service can call Jim Cooper, club adviser, at 208-748-3213, or email at [email protected], to schedule an appointment.
The club will need to know what type of filter and oil to work with, along with the year, make, color and model of the car. The make of the engine is also preferred if the owner knows it, said Cooper. On the day of a scheduled appointment, car owners need to park in the auto lot before school and drop their keys off before 7:30 a.m. with a note to Cooper in the LHS ITC or in his mail box in the LHS main office. — Jonika Ringling, news editor

The LHS Skills USA club currently seeks donations for its upcoming yard sale, which will help raise money for its competitions this spring.
Students and community members can drop off donations at the LHS ICA building any time before the yard sale, which is planned for March 18-20 in the ICA parking lot.
Funds raised at the sale will help Skills USA travel to their state competition, which takes place April 7, 8, and 9 in Boise. — Hailey Sorenson, managing editor

Bowlers from LHS won state while competing in Burley, Idaho, this month.
The group was split into a boys’ and girls’ team, and the girls won first place at the competition Feb. 8 and 9. The girls’ team includes LHS students: Rayanna and Rebecca Buttenhoff, Halie Decius, Sydney Martin, Jaylynne Reed, Cheyenne Rose and Rachael Rose. They all received medals and one trophy for winning in the 5A division.
The boys included: Nathaniel Beplate, Calum Garret, Davin Jackson, Braede…n Keane, Ryan Kieiriem, Robert Lashley, Clayton Olson, Nick Player-Hoog, Logan Martin, Quincy Peace, Logan Tritz, Ben Uptmor and Gunnar Wilhem.
“We bowl better as a team when we are excited and not stressing ourselves out so much,” said Decius about their recent performance.
The Lewiston bowling team competes during the winter months and meets twice a week to practice. LHS does not sponsor nor bus the team, Decius said. Competition absences are not excused by the school because the team is not a club funded by LHS. Competitions take place locally at Orchards Lanes and Lancer Lanes, and for state they go to Coeur d’Alene, Craigmont and Burley. — Annabelle Ady, entertainment assistant

LHS STUDENT ELECTION DATE CHANGES: Students will have several opportunities to vote this coming spring, as student council elections will fill up Access hours.
March 16 is ASB elections, where current sophomores and juniors will vote for school officers for the 2016-2017 school year. March 30 is now the date for both junior and senior class officer elections. Junior elections, where current sophomores will vote, will be held in Booth Hall. Senior elections, where current juniors will vote, will be held in the auditorium.

Lewiston High School’s Gold Voices are selling singing valentines for delivery Feb. 12 and 13 to anyone in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
Singing valentines include a rose, a card and special message with a song sung by the Gold Voices jazz choir. The song choices are: “Let’s Fall In Love,” “Cute,” “Fly Me To The Moon” and “You are my Sunshine.”
Valentines are available for $6 for LHS students (“Cute” is $8), $10 for students of all other Lewiston schools, and $20 community… members anywhere else in the valley.

Lewiston and Clarkston high schools have a competition every year, not only for the Golden Throne, but also to see who can raise the most money with Spirit Links, which provides donations to various charities throughout the Lewiston-Clarkston valley.
Individual links are for sale this week at 25 cents each or five for $1. Students can connect the paper links in their homeroom class, 2A or 2B. The LHS homeroom that raises the most money will win a breakfast.
Spirit Links are available Monday, Jan. 11, through Friday, Jan. 15. The Spirit Links also will be at LCSC Activity Center during the Golden Throne basketball game Friday, Jan. 15. — Kaela Law, reporter

The Lewiston School District will accept nominations for the Educational Support Personnel of the Year award through March 25.
The award is open to school district employees such as bus drivers, cafeteria workers, crossing guards, librarians, maintenance workers, secretaries, computer technologists and mechanics.
The general public is welcome to fill out a nomination form as well as staff members, parents, students and district employees. The forms are available at the distr…ict’s Central Services office, on the district’s website at the link below, or at each school’s administrative office. Completed forms should be sent by March 25 via email to Kathy Vellegas, Human Resources Supervisor at [email protected].

* First Lunch: 11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
* Block 4 (First): 11:40 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

Assembly in Booth Hall: 1:25 to 2:25 p.m.

The state cross country tournament concluded this weekend, with the Lewiston boys team taking 10th place overall.
Individually, Austin Byrer, junior, got second overall with a time of 16:38. Joey Perez, sophomore, got 22nd overall with a time of 16:50 and Sakti Woodbury came in 54th overall with a time of 17:27.
The girls team placed 11th as a team.
Individually for the girls, Miriam Ames, sophomore, got 41 overall with a time of 20:33. Kaitlyn Blume, freshman, got 46 overall with a time of 20:35, and finally Miranda Cranston, senior, took 79 overall with a time of 21:54. — Trevan Pixley, sports assistant

Wednesday, Oct. 21, the community can attend the LHS Powder Puff football game at Bengal Field, where the senior girls take on the underclassman girls.
This event takes place at 6:30 p.m., and gates open at 5:30 p.m. The game fundraises for the Safe and Sober Graduation party for the class of 2016.
Entry costs $2 and all Powder Puff players, cheerleaders and coaches can enter for free. Concessions will be available throughout the game, with a special half time show for added entertainment. – Naomi Eaton and Cass Williamson, reporters

This Saturday, Oct. 24, the LHS Business Professionals of America will host the Stride for Success 5k and 10k Fun Run at Kiwanis Park in Lewiston.
Registration starts at 8 a.m., and the run itself starts at 9 a.m. The cost is by donation, but $10 guarantees a Powerade and granola bar a donation of $20 gets all that plus a T-shirt for the first 150 runners.
Runners can compete in two age groups: 18 and younger, and 19 and older. The first three runners to finish in each age …group receive prizes.
The money raised at the Fun Run will help BPA compete at the state level in Boise and at nationals in Boston, Massachusetts.
Participants can turn in registration to LHS Room 209, or on the morning of the race. Kiwanis Park is located at 806 Snake River Ave. — Amanda Egland, reporter

Using this new 3-D printer Sept. 10, LHS science teacher Jeff Karlin printed this replica of a saber-toothed tiger skull in his classroom. The one-third-size replica adds to his school collection of taxidermy and various animal skulls. Over the summer the school district wrote a technology grant to put a 3-D printer in Karlin’s classroom. Earlier in the school year he told the district he needed one, “.. and when I came back to school it was here,” Karlin said. “Schools without [3-D printers] are doing their students a disservice.” Katie Swift, features assistant
