Josi Watson and Amanda Egland, LHS seniors, are looking for volunteers and donations for their Operation Christmas Child shoebox event, happening from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Kodiak Coffee Co. in Lewiston.

The event will benefit children in Third-World countries and serves as a public relations project for LHS DECA.

Watson and Egland set a goal to package and mail 50 Christmas boxes for children in need. The boxes will include toys, hygiene products and school supplies.

To support the project, Watson and Egland held a coin drive in LHS homeroom classes and raised individual donations throughout the community. The radio station Y-105, My Minerals, the Happy Day Corp., and His Story Christian Gift Center have already agreed to be sponsors.

“The point of a public relations project is to get the community involved, and we’re excited to be a part of that and the project,” Watson said.

To raise additional funds, Egland and Watson will raffle donated gift baskets and gift cards at the event.

The project started with Samaritan’s Purse, an organization that sends shoeboxes full of gifts to children who are not fortunate enough to receive Christmas presents.
