On Dec. 1 and 2 in Pocatello, Idaho, Lewiston High School Drama Club participated in state competition for the first time in more than 30 years.
The group chose to compete this year because of a new drama adviser and a better financial situation.
Zach Haas, Gracyn Richardson and Carl Snyder made it to the final round of the Serious Original category with Jessica Leckie’s original play “Addict.”
The comedy “A Typical Family Robbery” by Haas, made it to the semifinals in the Humorous Original category. It featured Abby Myklebust, Aubrie Hunt, Leckie, Braeden Keane and Derek Renzelman.
“I couldn’t be happier with the results of our first competition,” said Melissa Syverson, drama adviser, in an email. “We were up against some very experienced schools and were one of only two schools that don’t have a full drama program and classes in their school.”
They qualified to compete at state in a district competition Nov. 18 in Post Falls, Idaho.
