DECA dominates state, qualifies for nationals

DECA team members from LHS competed at state Friday, March 11, in Boise, multiple students won scholarships and internships, however names were not released at press time.
A total of 85 students, grades 10-12, participated in the competition. DECA students fundraised for competitions by selling cookie dough and Pampered Chef products, snacks in the DECA store, sponsorships, and Ford drives, which is when someone test drives a car for DECA and Ford donates money.
In order to join DECA, students “have to be fun, successful, and need to take a class from (Golden) Steele or me,” said John Potter, LHS economics teacher.
Potter has been advising DECA at LHS for six years. Potter’s advice for participating is to “be brave, study a little, pay attention in class, and give it your best,” adding that what he most enjoys about  DECA competitions is “seeing our kids be successful.”
