Assistant Principal Jolyn Hobson has coordinated this year’s World Series of Testing, which starts at 7:55 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at LHS.
For freshmen and sophomores, the SICA tests will be going on April 15-17 from 7:55 a.m. to 9:35 a.m. each day. For juniors, ISATs will be April 15-17 and April 21-24. The final week of April (April 28-May 2) will be used for makeup testing.
Freshmen and sophomores will be doing the Shortened Interim Comprehensive Assessments, which include multiple-choice questions for both English and math. They will also take the Inner Orbit test for science. Juniors will be completing the performance task and Computer-Adaptive Test in English and math, along with the Science ISAT.
“Make sure you are there because it is mandatory for at least 95% of students to take the state tests,” Hobson said.
Seniors will not be taking SICAs or ISATs, so they will start school at 9:40 a.m. on April 15, 16 and 17.
For students who are wondering why they should try hard on the SICAs and ISATs, Hobson had some advice.
“Trying on your SICAS is important because it prepares you for your ISATS,” which can affect college placement, Hobson said. “They also help to show teachers what they need to work on in their classrooms and how they can become better teachers.”
“As long as you put forth your best effort you should grow” with your test scores, Hobson added.
Hobson recommended that each student bring: headphones (for listening assignments), a water bottle, a Chromebook as well as a charger for it, and something quiet to do when finished. Students will not be able to use their Chromebooks after the test, Hobson said.
This week (during the tests) is Spirit Week. To kick it off, the Lewiston Police Department had a BBQ on Monday during both lunches. And on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, gum and cheese sticks will be provided for students before their tests.
Also for Spirit Week there will be dress-up days, starting with Tuesday as Jersey Day. Wednesday is Class Colors Day, with freshmen in yellow, sophomores in purple, juniors in white, and seniors wearing black. Thursday’s theme will be College Day. Students will be off school on Friday.
