After 31 great years as a social studies teacher and football coach, Emmett Dougherty is retiring.
Dougherty stated that his years of teaching have been “[a] magical perfection where you interact with the best of the best.”
While Dougherty has had a great career, he stated that his favorite memory is “doing ASB with Mr. Davey Steele.”
He had this advice for LHS teachers and students in the coming years.
“Be nice” and “Go with the flow and enjoy,” he said.
Despite Dougherty’s retirement from teaching, he will continue to coach LHS football in the fall of 2026. He stated that his greatest accomplishment has been “being the head football coach and making the state [competition] twice.”
Mike Jones, a teacher and football coach at LHS, stated that Dougherty’s retirement will be a “tremendous loss for LHS,” and that “being [here] without him will be a loss for everyone.”
