BPA to send more than 20 to state

More than 20 LHS students placed at the regional competition for Business Professionals of America on Dec. 11 in Moscow, Idaho.

The Lewiston students who placed Dec. 11 and are going to compete at the state level are:  Sydney Bagley, Olivia Brinkley, Payne Brown, William Dove, Isaac Dover, Allyah Fine, Cael Fuson, Korbin Hammack, Bree Hendren, Ashlynn Knight, Levi Linscheid, Wyatt Linscheid, Henry VanMullem, Grant Webb, Aubrey Weeks, Evan Weidner-Durst, and Aliah Winterbottom.

Business Professionals of America (BPA) provides students with opportunities to learn, develop, and prepare for the modern business world.

With over 45,000 members across more than 25 states and Puerto Rico, BPA has many branches, including finance, technology, digital communications, business administration and other business-related subjects.

Competitions based on the Workplace Skills Assessment Program (WSAP) are a main part of BPA.  The goal is to equip business students with workplace skills developed through business education programs.

In 2023, Ryan Click from Lewiston placed first in Digital Marketing Concepts, while three other LHS students placed in the top 10 in their branches.

Nicholas Bjork is an LHS student and BPA competitor for promotional photography and video production. He stated he joined BPA for his interest in film and photography.

“It’s subjective and can be seen in different lenses by different people,” Bjork said.

Another student, BPA competitor Payne Brown, is in for device management.

“I needed the extracurricular, and I [thought] it would be fun,” Brown said.

The prize for the winning competitors of nationals is free registration to the National Leadership Conference and a chance at a scholarship for the role they are in.

The University of Idaho explained in a news article that, “The BPA National Leadership Conference serves as the pinnacle of the organization’s year, giving students the chance to compete in over 100 events, attend leadership workshops and network with peers and industry professionals.”

The BPA state competition will take place March 2-4 in Boise.
