The Everybody Reads program welcomed Travis Baldree to LHS on Nov. 6 to introduce himself and his New York Times bestseller Legends and Lattes. Everybody Reads creates shared experiences around books to encourage discussions and bring the reading community together.
Baldree is a Pacific Northwest author, videogame developer, and voice actor. He is the co-owner and CEO of Double Damage Games and has developed games such as Torchlight, Fate, and Rebel Galaxy. His novel, Legends and Lattes, is a cozy fantasy that starts with Viv, an orc barbarian who seeks to start a new life in the city of Thune, where she wants to build a coffee shop. The story is “heavily Dungeons and Dragons based,” as Baldree said in his presentation. The message behind it is exploring desires in life, and not having to do the same thing throughout it. It encourages people to challenge new experiences.
“This book was the kind I wanted to read, but didn’t get to,” Baldree told the audience at LHS.
He gave lots of advice to future writers; he said that if one gets stuck during their writing process, to write about personal experiences that share knowledge with others. He also said that in order to promote your work, it’s best to “just be a normal human being”
