Tennis smacks competition

The LHS varsity tennis team had a successful season with a record of eight wins, two ties and one loss. The team was satisfied with their performance, as testified by Coach Sandy Stocks.

Stocks was happy with this season after last year, when they suffered losses to Sandpoint. She hoped to bring home a trophy this season, and had nine players qualify for state competitions.

“We opened with our first match at Sandpoint, and beat them, and at that point, it began to raise my hopes about what our season had to offer,” said Stocks.

With that, she was sad for the seniors to go after seeing them grow for four years.

“I feel like that every time a tennis season ends, I blast a little piece of my heart to somebody onto that group of seniors,” she said.

The varsity boys won the regional championships, and the girls won second, compared to last season, when they left with a record of 7-5-1. It appeared to be a happy turnaround, especially for the bittersweet seniors.

“It seems like we’ve all gotten closer, making it more fun to play,” said Alexis Keller, a senior. “The teams we’ve played have been really good, and it’s been a really good experience for everybody.”
