Author Beth Piatote will give a presentation at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, in the P1FCU Performing Arts Auditorium at LHS.

Piatote, an Associate Professor at the University of California-Berkeley, is a creative writer and indigenous language revitalization activist who specializes in Nez Perce language and literature. She is also a part of continuing efforts to return the remains of ancestors from museums to their land.

Piatote wrote The Beadworkers, a short story collection set in the Northwest. These short stories give an inside view into the lives of Native peoples living in Idaho. A review at Amazon.com says, “Formally inventive and filled with vibrant characters, The Beadworkers draws on Indigenous aesthetics and forms to offer a powerful, sustaining vision of Native life.”

The Beadworkers is available at local libraries and bookstores. The book will be discussed with other community members who participate in local Everybody Reads events.
