FCCLA heads to state competition

Lewiston High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) presented at District competitions Feb. 22 in Lewiston.
Club members presented their Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) event projects, which judges observed and scored for proficiency, leadership skills and career preparation. Groups from the Nez Perce School District, Potlatch School District and Tammany High School all attended.
Jannelle Dewenter, the FCCLA adviser at LHS, commented on a Potlatch student’s presentation in which she constructed a dress inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas while sewing for the first time.
“She added a zipper and a beautiful trim and hem. It was very 1950s-style,” Dewenter said.
Students from Lewiston FCCLA will advance to State competitions in Boise April 5-7.
