They first played on March 6 against Twin Falls, losing 66-49. After that loss, they had the rest of the day to refresh, and the Bengals returned the next day to play against Columbia. Columbia beat Lewiston 68-62. After this loss, the team was sent home with a disappointing 0 for 2 performance in the tournament.
On the path to the tournament, they had to beat out the Sandpoint Bulldogs twice to secure their regional victory. They beat Sandpoint with a score of 66-45 in their first game on Feb. 25 and returned to beat them again on Feb. 27 with a score of 69-55.
The boy’s Senior Night was Feb. 14, along with the game against Post Falls at Lewiston. That night the Lewiston Bengals beat the Post Falls Trojans with an incredibly close score of 62-60. Senior boys, Drew Alldredge and Parker Bogar played their last regular season game against Sandpoint on Feb. 18
Coach Brooks Malm reflected on the season and his hopes for the upcoming year.
“To the community, the support this season was unbelievable,” Malm said. “Our players feed off the energy of the crowd, and it creates an environment that the youth in the community strive to be a part of.”
Malm explains that the outcome at state was not what was planned; however, adversity, when handled correctly, can procure a ticket to better opportunities that will take the team to places they have never thought possible.
“Success breeds success. Energy creates more energy. This isn’t the end. This is just the beginning,” said Malm.
