Last month, Lewiston High School sent eight boys and six girls from the bowling team to Meridian, Idaho, for the 5A Bowling State Championship. The team came home on Feb. 19 with four top-16 finishers and a state title.
On the boys’ side, sophomore Wyatt Hall placed 11th out of 45 with a score of 989. According to the website Tournament Bowl, he out-placed 34 of his opponents and was only five points away from placing in the top 10. As a team, the boys placed eighth and beat the Pocatello and Twin Falls teams by over 100 points.
For the girls, eighth-grader Jaci Louis placed 15th with a total score of 770. Two points behind Louis, junior, Andrea Baird, placed 16th out of a total of 32 bowlers, according to the Tournament Bowl website. Lewiston also had sophomore, Taryn Fowler, and senior, Mercedes Moore, place in the top 20, helping the girls come home with a state title.
The girls’ team beat Vallivue — the eventual third-place team — in the semi-finals, and secured their title in the finals against Twin Falls High School. The Lewiston girls ended the tournament with a total score of 1,710 points.
